Missing Child - Kyron Horman

I don't know much about the details surrounding the disappearance of little Kyron Horman, but what I do know is that this little 7 year old boy is missing, and today is the 13th day since he was last seen.

I don't want to jump to conclusions or make accusations about who did or didn't do it, that's not for me to decide. But what I do want to do it just add another link online to his photo and try and get his name and photo out there.

The more people who are looking for him the better.

Kyron is 7 years old, he is 3'8" tall and weighs 50 lbs.
His eye colour is blue and his hair is brown.
He wears glasses but it is possible that he no longer has these with him.
He was last seen wearing black (or very dark) cargo pants, white haynes socks, a dark coloured CSI t-shirt and a pair of 'well worn' sketcher shoes that have orange trim.

This photograph is the last one taken of him on that very morning he went missing from school.

Kyron was last seen at his school, the Skyline Elementary School in Portland, Oregon at 8.45am on the 4th June.

If you have any information or may have seen anything that might be of interest to the Multnomah Co. Sheriff's office please call the tip line on 503-261-2841

-----
I know this is not my usual type of post but I can't help but think of this little boy. He's seven years old and has been missing for so long already. I have nephews that age, and it just really hits home to me how frightened he must be and what he must be going through.
There's not much I can do to help but keep my eyes open and help to get his photo out there.

Time flies...

I remember all too clearly how it felt when the lump in my throat formed and I couldn't swallow...

...a year ago today after getting the call from my doctors office to tell me that they had found something really wrong with my bloods, that my thyroid hormones were sky high and that I needed to come in as soon as possible...

I remember just thinking it was the end of the world as we know it... really, it kind of was. Life has changed so much for Cory and I over the past year.

Last night as I lay down trying to sleep, I thought about that very day when I was diagnosed with Graves Disease and how little I knew about the disease and what we would have to go through to come out on the other end. It was hard to believe that was just a year ago - it seems more like a lifetime or two ago.

I'd never been the kind of person to worry about getting travel insurance and had never had any worries with my health, but that all changed. Now my everyday thoughts are of how to get the best results out of my medication, how to get the healthiest diet for my illness but not spend 4 hours a day in the kitchen juicing and pureeing everything under the sun. Right now with the job change we are trying to work out the best way to get a good medical insurance plan that would cover all the 'essentials' that I go through quarterly but not cost the earth. It's doing my head in, and I'm almost obsessing over it - we have to make a decision before 5pm tomorrow....... GULP

Anyway, that is what's going on in my head... kind of random I'm sure, but it's what's the most prominent thing with us right now... oh, and not forgetting the enormous backlog of laundry I need to go and rugby tackle!

Attitude

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.

Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home.

The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.

And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes.

The morning after

Well, unfortunately I'm not referring to a big night out or any partying.... merely the morning after being at the dentist.

Yesterday I went to see Dr Brian for some work where the cyst has formed in the mandible. Ugh. It actually went really smoothly, and as always Dr Brian and Teresa were awesome. They got me numb (YAY - big relief) and worked at the area in question. Brian did tell me that the cyst there is fairly big and definitely needs to be removed and sent for testing (ugh again)...

So they drained it and put some awesome medication in there and will wait to see what it does over the next couple weeks. I'm probably going to see the maxillofacial / oral surgeon again in a couple weeks who will decided if (more likely than not) they will bone graft at that site, and how big it will need to be.

My Orthodontist called yesterday morning too, to tell me that he is doing some background work and investigation to see if there is a reason for my body forming these cysts as a protective action against trauma and damage or if it's just 'one of those things'.... I'm guessing there's a reason, but that's just hunch!

So, before we worked on the cyst I had no pain or swelling in the site. Now it hurts like crazy - I know that's kind of weird but it really does. I don't even know how that could be the case but it is and it feels yucky!

I am very thankful for good dentists, and also very thankful for a wonderful dental assistant... mostly I am thankful for a good man to stand beside me through these trials who gives me all the support and encouragement I need to keep pushing forward towards the next hurdle/challenge etc

Lazy weekend

Well, it seems that this weekend our grand plans of getting the house & garden ship shape and looking great went straight out the window.

I'd been fighting a bug all week, it started with a sore throat on Monday and continued all week gradually turning into a session of the general lurgies.

Yesterday I went to the Women's breakfast at our church and it was really fun. I got to visit with some really wonderful women and meet some new people. The guys did a great job on the food and it was really good to hear Jane speak about her time in Thailand.

After that I came home to find that Cory had not won the fight against the lurgies - he was feeling the way I had a few days before. I felt bad for him - I knew exactly how crummy a bug it was.

Since it was gorgeous weather and we couldn't bear to relax inside we decide to go and do a bit of garage sale hopping and a few errands we needed to, but apart from that not too much. We had a few things to sort out at the rental house and needed to help our friends do a few things before they left for Mexico.

Today we both woke up feeling completely lethargic... and to top it all off it was bucketing down! So we had a relaxing day trying to eat healthily, take lots of vitamins and drink as much fluids as possible...

It's been a really good day - not the most productive (minus some laundry, some dishes and a few meals) but it's been nice to hang out together....

Tomorrow I go to see my favourite dentist and dental assistant... Hey, I know most people don't like going to the dentist, and it's not exactly my favourite place to be, but I don't hate it and I really truly like my dentist and all his staff so it's not so bad afterall....

... I just hope they can get me numb..... (yikes!)

Pull the breaks...

So, it turns out that my excitement for getting braces on last Wednesday and being done with my flipper were a little premature.
I had my appointment at Dr Joe's office on Wednesday morning and I was pumped. They took x-rays and molds and got did the final exam ready to start adding the brackets to my teeth and get the show on the road.

Something caught the eye of Dr Joe in my x-rays, and it wasn't a good something... he looked at the ceph and it was right then that he told his assistant to hold fire for a minute. He told me that there was something 'unusual' and that he needed to do a little investigation.

Gulp - something leaped in the pit of my stomach. Just a few minutes earlier I was taking my flipper out for the 'last' time and was all hyped up to get the braces on... now something was up, something was wrong and I had no idea what it was.

At that very moment in time I wished two people were there with me, Cory & Dr Brian. Now, yes, I know it might seem like a strange selection. Of course I wanted Cory there with me, that was my instinctual choice - we'd been through all the hurdles over the past year together.
But I wanted Brian there too because he knew case like the back of his hand. He's spent more time looking and working on my teeth over the past 12 months than anyone else in my whole lifetime. He had fought for the best treatment plan possible for me, I knew he'd be in my corner in this instance too.
I guessed that Dr Joe wouldn't jump to any conclusions without first consulting Brian anyway - and for that I was thankful.

After about 45 minutes of waiting patiently but with my nerves driving me crazy Dr Joe gave me the news, well actually he didn't even have to give me the news, he just had to show me the x-ray. I had looked at enough dental x-rays over the past year and was well able to see what he was referring to.
He told me that "the three musketeers" as I now refer to them (Dr Brian, Dr Johnson & him), had been on a long conference call and they had all been looking at CT scans, x-rays and pictures of my bone structure and recent procedures.
It turns out that in the 'accident' there had been some damage to my lower jaw too that we hadn't noticed yet. Now, that might sound strange, that there could be so much damage and it had gone unnoticed, but it's important to realise I have a really high pain threshold and there was no physical bumps or anything to point to any being damage there.... except when you look at the ceph x-ray and see there's a huge cyst lurking down there and a fair amount of bone loss.

So, the parking break had been put on - I wouldn't be getting my braces after all... Another hurdle, another struggle, another operation and more waiting...

I was so ready to be on a time out from all that, I was ready to be on the straight road to the finish line... I was ready for braces...

But it wasn't my time yet.

Instead I put my flipper back in, wiped my tears and pulled myself together.

June already...?

OMG - I'm not quite sure how that happened... I'm not quite sure how it can be June 1st already. It seems like just last week it was January.

Well, the weather is still pretty crappy, so perhaps that's perhaps part of the reason it's so hard to believe it's June...

Tomorrow I get my braces... I'm nervous and excited all at the same time.
It's my Dad's birthday tomorrow too (HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD).

Not much else to report. Cory is enjoying farm life - I am very glad he didn't have to work on Memorial day, it was nice to have a long weekend at home together and we had a bike ride in the afternoon after working on some things around the house, and then had a BBQ (meatfest) with some good friends...

I guess that's it, I'll catch you later in the week!
